Oracle Developers NYC Meetup - October 2017

Details
Welcome to Oracle Developers NYC's October 2017 meetup! Here's a look at the agenda...
Marc Sewtz - New REST Features Coming with APEX 5.2
Oracle Application Express 5.2 introduces two new features that allow building applications on remote data sources via REST. Remote SQL Data Access takes advantage of the REST enabled SQL capabilities built into ORDS and enables standard APEX components, such as Reports, Charts and Interactive Reports to run against remote databases. The REST Service Consumption feature enables you to build standard APEX components on a variety of REST APIs and to create extensions for Oracle SaaS and other Cloud-based services. In this presentation, we’ll review the architecture of each one of these features and show some practical examples of how to make use of these new capabilities in an efficient and secure manner.
Chaitanya Koratamaddi - Oracle Open World 2017: Recap for Developers
This 20-minute session includes a quick recap of OOW 2017 highlights for developers. The session provides OOW 2017 updates on: Announcements, Oracle APEX, SQL Developer, ORDS, Oracle Database Cloud Services, and other areas of interest to the developer community.
Dan McGhan - Making RESTful Web Services the Easy Way with Node.js
Drivers make it easy to connect to and run statements against a database. That means they're perfect for creating RESTful APIs, right? Well, you'll want to add some pagination capabilities, maybe sorting controls, and what about some generic filtering options too. You could do all that with the driver and some smart code, but there must be an easier way, right? Of course there is!
In this session, attendees will learn about some of the challenges associated with manual API creation using drivers. Once those are understood, we'll explore several tools that offer similar functionality out of the box, including Sails and ORDS.
As a special thank you for coming, attendees will be eligible for $500 in free credits in Oracle Cloud. This offer is non-transferable and only available for 1st-time trials. See this infographic (https://www.dropbox.com/s/73ub845231x4y4r/What%20can%20I%20try%20with%20%24500%20in%20free%20credits%20on%20Oracle%20Cloud%3F.pdf?dl=0) for ideas on how you can use $500 in credits!
Note: You must RSVP for this event and seats are limited. Please RSVP with your full name and bring matching ID for security. Please do not RSVP if you are unsure that you will be able to attend.
