Title: Azure SQL Memory GrantsAbstract:
Memory Grant in Azure SQL
When SQL Server executes a query, it requires memory to store temporary data for sorting and joining rows. In this deep dive session, you will learn about the intricacies of memory grants, including how they are requested, allocated, and used during query execution. You will explore the dependencies of memory grants and the impact of insufficient memory leading to spills to tempdb, which can degrade performance. The session will also cover the memory grant feedback feature introduced in SQL Server 2019, explaining how it dynamically adjusts memory grants based on historical query execution data. Finally, you will gain insights into identifying and optimizing memory-intensive queries to enhance overall throughput and reduce costs by effectively scaling down the Azure SQL database. This session aims to equip you with a thorough understanding of memory management in SQL Server and practical techniques to improve query performance.
