Organiser Happy Hour: Hopes, Goals, & Fears for 2020 (no $2 WeCharge)

Details

Meetup stopped supporting the Network in Jan, but that doesn't mean we can't support each other! (But it does mean we all have to buy our own drinks at the bar.)

Please join us for a casual opportunity to Network and Connect with other organisers, swap tips/tricks, regal each other with epic triumphs, laugh over our horror stories, and generally talk shop.

Orgs of all levels welcome! Newbies to the more seasoned. We can all learn and get inspired by each other as we prepare to wind down for the year and mull over how to up our game in 2020.

This will NOT be Tech Support RE :insert your site/app complaint here:.
Please contact Meetup directly for site/app related issues.

NOTE: again, Meetup isn't supporting the Organizer Network anymore. Yumi & Lorenzo aren't Meetup employees, we're just organizers like you!

I'm not setting an agenda, but here's what's on my mind:

Foresight is 2020 Vision. Bring it On:
January is a big new member month, with everyone making resolutions to be more social this year. How will you take advantage of this surge and help members keep their resolutions and keep coming back to your events?

We also have some potentially-disturbing hypotheticals to mull over:
Big Change for Small Change. $2/RSVP Communication Debacle/Apology:
Let's share our contingency plans for how we'll adapt to potential changes at Meetup. How will you react if Meetup starts charging per RSVP in Berlin? Is it the End of the World or exactly what you've been dreaming of?

WeLephant in the Room. Developing story for discussion:
SoftBank/WeWork is selling Meetup. A lot of the changes for the last two years, both good/bad, are somehow related to Meetup being owned by the now fallen giant WeWork.
Since we don't know who will buy Meetup, it's just speculation on how this will affect the platform; probably not too much, except no more WeWork event spaces bookable, probably. (Unless Facebook buys us, then all hell will break loose!)
WeWork's new CEOs want to sell off 3 of its businesses as the company looks to cut costs: https://www.businessinsider.de/wework-wants-sell-3-businesses-managed-by-q-conductor-meetup-2019-9

Or we can talk about none of this upsetting stuff, and just have a beer/spezi!
I'm happy just to hang out, talk org shop, and hear about what AMAZING groups you have!

(And I especially love any match-making stories/gossip about your group, b/c I'm a spinster aunt in disguise. Except in my experience successful matches are just as bad as disastrous ones b/c then the couple stops coming to events ever, except successful ones will pop around again for their anniversary to announce this is the place they found each other.)
