About us
For quite a while I had been playing with the idea of learning origami, but as many things in this hectic Zeitgeist of ours, it never really happened until an unexpected turn of event in early August 2024: a Japanese Couchsurfer whom I hosted in autumn 2019 re-visited me here together with his girlfriend. They gave me an origami lesson in the evening before their departure, where I folded my very first origami crane — a simple moment that eventually turned into a lasting passion for myself and subsequently our thriving origami community!
Today, our fully donation-based community brings together Berliners (where our journey started and where most of our members live in) and internationals of all levels who share an interest in hands-on creativity, patience, and artistic exploration. You don’t need talent or prior experience to join; all you need is curiosity and a willingness to try out something with the origami crew!

- Instagram - mostly featuring origami creations and our past events, but also some personal interests beyond origami sometimes

Folding Carnival Brunch
Metis Books and Café, Gleimstraße 21, 10437, Berlin, DEDid you miss out on carnival and would like to catch up?
Then join us for this (very) delayed celebration of carnival —origami style! We'll focus on creating a wide range of masks, from traditional models to playful animal reproductions 🎭
We'll once again be hosted by the library and cafè Metis, which offers a wide range of drinks and snacks, including brunch options 🥞🍳
What you can expect at all our events:
- Mandatory donation (amount of your choice) – this supports essential costs like the Meetup subscription and keeps our community thriving 🌱 You can either submit a physical donation to the event host in person or make a digital donation here (and inform the host afterwards)
- In-person folding practice for all levels – beginners and experienced folders are equally welcome
- Origami paper + model instructions will be provided (from the host’s collection, for reference only). Feel free to bring your own favorite sheets or tools!
- Photos may be taken for memories & our archive (Meetup, Instagram, Telegram) – let the host know if you prefer not to appear
- We kindly encourage everyone to order at least one drink/snack to support Metis for hosting us!
⚠️ RSVP Policy – Please Read ⚠️ Our community has grown a lot since its birth in August 2024, which is amazing — but it also means we need to handle RSVPs more carefully:
- RSVP opens 7 days before each event (apart from short-notice events) and closes at noon on the event day.
- Please cancel your spot or contact the host directly (via Meetup message function or our Telegram channel) by noon on the event day if you can't make it last minute.
- Members with 2 no-shows (without notice) will be removed from the group unless a valid reason is provided.

Manifesto Market, Alte Potsdamer Strasse 7, 10785, Berlin, DEWe are bringing our origami gathering to Manifesto Market Berlin, a vibrant indoor food hall filled with restaurants, bars, and lively energy from all around the world.
Expect a slightly more dynamic atmosphere than our usual cafés, with plenty of food & drinks options to grab while we fold together!What you can expect here:
