Key Lessons from “Ego is the Enemy”

Details

This is the Monday night meeting for Orlando Stoics. It's online.

Ryan Holiday’s popular book “Ego is the Enemy” (2016) shows us how ego can prevent us from reaching greatness. In the modern age, ego is still present in many people, but these articles show us how to reframe our lives as students and how we can live with purpose. It’s also interesting to note that Holiday’s earlier book “Obstacle is the Way” was about dealing with externals (what we can’t control), and in this book, Holiday looks inward. There are many good quotes to cover, so this meeting might be 2 parts.

After our meeting (of 1.5 hours), we'll have our usual "after party" (optional). It's a social time to get to know each other better.

Our group enjoys open-minded, respectful conversations on Stoicism and how it relates to science, culture, philosophy, other belief systems, and even pop culture (books and movies). Sometimes "we agree to disagree", but the long-term goal is to improve our minds via group discussions.

In general, Stoicism teaches us how to handle difficult people and events, how to avoid anger and worry, and overall to use moderation in all aspects of our lives.

This meeting is free and open to the public.
