About the Artists
Joe Leaman is an in-demand percussionist, pianist, composer, arranger and educator with an active following throughout Northeastern Ohio. He has appeared as a headliner or accompanied singers and other instrumentalists in past ORMACO performances. He is also the administrator and main instructor of ORMACO’s MCPAL program, an after-school enrichment program created in partnership with the Medina County Police Activities League, providing free music lessons to students in area schools. A child of a music teacher, Joe showed curiosity in music and performing from an early age, and was playing professionally by the age of 16. Relocating to North East Ohio to attend the University of Akron, Joe was fortunate to be able to cultivate his love for piano and percussion simultaneously, studying with legendary teachers Dr. Larry Snider, Rock Wehrmann, Mark Gonder, Matt Dudack, Philip Thompson and Jack Schantz. Currently, Joe runs his own teaching studio, he’s the Music and Worship Director at Montrose Zion United Methodist Church in Bath and maintains an active and stylistically eclectic performing career.
Wilbur Krebs is a multi-instrumentalist based in Kent, OH. As a guitarist, bassist, and steel pannist, Wilbur is a true musical chameleon that is comfortable in all scenarios. In addition to performing, Wilbur is a pan builder for the Akron based steel drum company, Panyard, where he tunes and builds instruments that end up all over the world.
Clay Chabola is a much sought after percussionist in NE Ohio who holds a Bachelor’s degree in Music Performance in Percussion from The University of Akron and a Master’s in Library and Information Science from Kent State University.
Darren Frate found a bass owned by his uncle, Dale Peters of The James Gang, in his family’s attic and learned to navigate the instrument on his own. He was accepted into The Berklee College of Music, in Boston MA where he majored in film scoring and studied composition. He has toured and recorded with a great many artists, including jazz guitar icon Mike Stern, and recently released the CD, ‘Resonance’.
