Product Delivery in the Age of Cloud Native

Details

We're having a meetup on May 23 at 6pm at the Microsoft NERD facility in Cambridge. The topic is Product Development in the Age of Cloud Native. I wanted to get away from discussing open source business models and really just dive into what it means to create products and services that utilize open source software at some level. To get a preview of what I'll be talking about, see this article I published last week on the OSEN blog:

https://osenetwork.com/2017/05/19/product-development-in-the-age-of-cloud-native/

Speaker: John Mark Walker, Open Source Entrepreneur Network and Dell EMC

Here are the primary points I want to discuss:

  • When talking about cloud native products, there's an implicit and sometimes explicit bias towards open source participation

  • When constructing a product management pipeline, separating out a middle stage that is open to outside innovation is a big plus

  • The end product can be proprietary or open source, but at the beginning of the development process there's a whole lot of open source

  • CI/CD is not a substitute for good product management

As usual, this will be an open-ended discussion, and I hope to hear lots of opinions and experiences.

Drinks and snacks will be served. Many thanks to Microsoft for providing the meeting space!

Logistics: If you don't sign up with your full name, please send it to me privately so I can put you on the list.
