A Course in Witnessing: Osho Sakshi and the Science of Awakening
Details
O-Meditation Sangha is hosting a live online Meditation Meeting on Zoom. This week’s program is from A Course in Witnessing: Osho Sakshi and the Science of Awakening.
A Course in Witnessing is a collection of 144 Meditation Programs. Each program has two parts, Listening Meditation (Osho discourse) and Satsang Meditation. In addition to these two parts, our zoom meditation meetings include a third part, Dialog. The dialog is an opportunity for the participants to ask questions, comment or share.
Osho spent his whole life working to awaken as many individuals as possible through the practice of meditation. In addition to teaching the 112 ancient meditation techniques of the Vigyan Bhairava Tantra, Osho also devised new "active" meditation techniques designed specifically to overcome the complexities and busyness of the modern mind. Osho, however, also says that the very core of meditation is witnessing.
In A Course in Witnessing we will be exploring, in depth, that fundamental teaching of Osho's, Witnessing. This teaching is a common thread that runs through Osho's discourses on The Upanishads, Shiva's Meditation Techniques, Patanjali's Yoga Sutras, Zen Sutras, and the numerous discourses that Osho gave on many of the world's spiritual traditions as well as questions asked by his friends and lovers.
Osho has said:
"This word sakshi is very beautiful and very valuable. The whole philosophy, genius and wisdom of the East is implied in this small word. The East has contributed no other more important word than sakshi, the witness, to the world.
What does sakshi mean? Sakshi means the seer, the witness. Who is this who is experiencing that “I am not the body”? Who is this experiencing that “I am not the mind”? Who is this who goes on denying that “I am not this, I am not this”? There is an element of seeing, of watching, of the watcher within us which sees, which observes everything.
This seer is the sakshi, the witness."
-Osho
