Details

Join us in Bjørvika for a free in-person meetup with food (🍕), mingling and interesting talks about AI at Sea (🐟🌊🪸🚢)!

Autonomous ships, monitoring of ocean health, optimisations of the shipping we all depend on -- our oceans are critically important to us all, and we are seeing an increase in data-driven initiatives targeting the sea. How do we gather, and even more importantly, share ocean data? How can we use AI technology to monitor shipping for safe, reliable and eco-friendly transportation?

Through some great presenters we'll learn more about "AI at sea", the progress, possibilities, and challenges that influence the most important ecosystem we have.

Speakers include Hub Ocean, DNV, Vake AI and SoftSeaweed. Please RSVP to secure your spot.

Program:

  • 17:00 - Pizza 🍕 and soft drinks 🥤 are served (and the MS office is a great place for meeting new people)
  • 17:30 - The event begins: Four presentations with a short break halfway through

Speakers:

  • Jo Øvstaas - Head of Platform at Hub Ocean
Talk: How data, technology and collaboration can heal our oceans
For a healthy planet, we need healthy oceans. Yet they are under threat by ocean warming, deacidification, deoxygenation, pollution and illegal or unreported fishing. Over the last three decades, there has been an exponential increase in the number and variety of ocean observing systems, sensor platforms and sensor types. From satellites to unmanned surface vessels, autonomous underwater vehicles, profiling floats to cabled observatories, our understanding of ocean dynamics has been transformed through these new tools. This creates a significant volume of data, but also a lot of opportunities with advanced analytics for data-driven decision making.
  • Odd Eirik Igland - Co-founder and CIO at Vake AI (Techstars '20)
Talk: Applying intelligence to satellite imagery to gain deeper insight into vessels at sea.
    Vake@LinkedIn
  • Grunde Løvold (Principal Scientist) & Christian Agrell (Senior Research Scientist) - DNV (Det Norske Veritas)
Talk: How to ensure safe autonomous navigation systems
DNV has for more than 150 years acted as an independent third party ensuring safety at sea. But the advent of software and AI-intensive systems challenges the way DNV traditionally delivers class services. Examples of such new technologies are the components of an autonomous navigation system. This is the theme of an ongoing research project, SAFEMATE, where DNV is partnering with key Norwegian actors to develop and research how to ensure the safety of an advanced decision support system for navigation. In this talk we will discuss the SAFEMATE project and some general challenges related to assurance of AI/ML in mission-critical functions.
