November book meetup: Solaris

For November, we'll be reading "Solaris" by Stanisław Lem.

"Solaris", first published in 1961, imagines a space exploration to a distant planet with a seemingly sentient ocean. As the crew struggles to make sense of this entirely alien intelligence, they come to believe they are being emotionally and psychologically manipulated. Solaris is an classic of philosophical science fiction in which the author explores memory, guilt, and the limits of knowledge.

The meetup will take place at the main Deichman library in Bjørvika. If anyone is interested, we can continue the conversation afterward over drinks at a nearby pub!

*Originally written in Polish, Solaris was recently translated directly from Polish and released in Norwegian translation (2021). The most widely available English translation is an indirect translation via French. A more recent direct translation from Polish to English is available on audible (the print run has been limited due to legal issues).
