Talk:
The Road Less Taken: Kafka for Big Data Streaming and Unorthodox Solutions for Events

Abstract:
Kafka was acquired in 2020 to stream signalling data from the mobile network into our big data Analytics platform for analysis. We talk about how it was solved, and use cases that subsequently emerged.
Real applications should often cover many different needs, but above all it must work. Such requirements in combination with time constraints, external technology constraints, etc. can result in "creative" and rather unorthodox solution designs. In the last part of the presentation, we will present an unorthodox but functional Big Data solution in which Kafka is an important component. It has probably become a "best-practice" nightmare, but perhaps it became a product owner's dream...? "

Bio:
Eldar Sveinung has more than 25 years of experience in the IT industry as a line manager, consultant, and project manager. He is now heading the Big Data Platform Team within the IT division in Telenor Norway. The team provides a platform for streaming (Kafka) of billions of events from our network and devices, and a big data platform for analytics of the events.

Marius Holm is a Data Engineer at Telenor Norway where he focuses on Streaming and Big Data solutions supporting Network Engineers in improving the Telenor network based on analytics and insight. His first 2 years at Telenor were spent as a Data Scientist within the same domain, before making the switch to Data Engineering and data platform operations a year ago.
