OSMCO MapCamp! 2015 - South Park

Details
Greetings everyone,
You are invited to the first (annual?) OSM-CO MapCamp! Previously we have followed up State of the Map - US with a much less formal SotM-CO. This year, I say we do something more Colorado-style; how about MapCamp! A weekend of mapping, camping, and OpenStreetMap shenanigans.
Where: We will be mapping and camping in the vicinity of South Park (http://www.google.com/url?q=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.openstreetmap.org%2Frelation%2F3387601%23map%3D10%2F39.1790%2F-105.9206&sa=D&sntz=1&usg=AFQjCNE584Ae-Y4Di1G6cRghYFsvuSZwyw). In general, it’s about a one hour drive (pending traffic, which is pretty bad on Friday afternoons and midday Sundays) to Kenosha Pass (http://www.google.com/url?q=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.openstreetmap.org%2Fnode%2F1432157639%23map%3D17%2F39.40304%2F-105.75469%26layers%3DD&sa=D&sntz=1&usg=AFQjCNFmiAml62WQzt3Lrl5mpKM547p6Eg) from Denver. Fairplay is about another 15-20 minutes and there is camping all around (so roughly 2 hours to the various MapCamp! locations from Denver and it’s roughly the same coming from Colorado Springs the ‘back-way’).
See this uMap for some more details: http://u.osmfr.org/m/46041/
When: Weekend of July 24-26th 2015
Schedule of Events:
Exact Details To Be Determined, Tentatively:
Thursday Evening:
• Set Camp (w/ Cocktails?)
Fairplay Friday:
• Morning Mapping Trip (around/near camp?)
• Lunch (lots of places nearby Fairplay/Como/Jefferson, or eat at camp)
• Mapternoon Mapping Party - Fairplay (ending at…)
• Dinner in Fairplay (also those coming up Friday night could meet us there rather than find camp alone)
• Fireside Chats
Saturday (more of the same):
Morning, maybe we will split up:
• Hikers/Bikers/Adventurists will probably go GPS trails
• Citified Folk might want to explore Alma, Como, Jefferson or one of the State Parks (Antero, Elevenmile, etc. - or the Anglers among us might find water elsewhere)
• Or a variety of other recreational mapping opportunities
Evening:
• Campside Cookout and OSM 'Presentations' at MapCamp! (I have a mini-projector and we might be able to do 'battery-operated' slideshows, etc. - or if you want to give a 'presentation' with acoustic guitar, that's also acceptable)
(Sunday) Last Day Lake George:
If you’re needing to get home and/or don’t want to sit in traffic you’ll either leave really early or rather late; for those who stick around:
• Break Camp
• More morning recreation/mapping opportunities.
• Lunch in Lake George
• Mapternoon in the area as most part ways
• Maybe meet for dinner in Woodland Park or other mountain towns on the way downhill
Accommodations and Logistics:
Stay tuned to the comments for further details/changes/etc!
On Thursday July 23rd some of us will go out to stake-claim on campsites near Tarryall Reservoir; then we'll post directions/coordinates/specifics here either that night or Friday (whenever we get to cell/wifi).
For the less adventurous there are some suggested places to reserve campsite on the uMap, a couple hotel/motels in Fairplay and lots of BNB and other cabin rental/etc. in the area. Those staying ‘at camp’ should be prepared for primitive camping (if we run out of space/something goes awry there is tons of primitive camping in the area) - so have everything you need for as long as you intend to stay.
Stay tuned to the comments for more details on times/locations as well as feel free to post about food/beer/ride sharing but as this is more an ad-hoc event nothing will be ‘provided’ by the organizers but we can definitely collaborate to save everyone some time, effort and/or money.
Hope to see you all at MapCamp!
