OpenStreetMap US Spring #editathon

Details

Come join 16 cities across the United Sates in an OpenStreetMap editathon (http://www.openstreetmap.us/2013/03/april-spring-editathon/)! We'll be gathering to improve the US map as well as support humanitarian mapping efforts (http://tasks.hotosm.org/job/190) in Nepal.

Basic computer skills are helpful, but NO MAPPING OR GIS EXPERIENCE IS NECESSARY TO PARTICIPATE!!!

***

See below for more information on both OSM and Nepal.

OpenStreetMap (OSM (http://www.openstreetmap.org/)) can be thought of as the Wikipedia of maps. It is run by a self-organized community of volunteers. OSM democratizes the production and use of map data. To learn more about OSM see this helpful step-by-step guide (http://learnosm.org/en/).

While Nepal is one of the most exposed countries to natural hazards, civic and public agencies have limited data to assess risk and plan for disaster. A growing community is coordinating with OSM Nepal to digitize building footprints. This infrastructure data will directly inform public decision-making to mitigate risk.
