OpenStreetMap US Spring #editathon

Come join 16 cities across the United Sates in an OpenStreetMap editathon! We'll be gathering to improve the US map as well as support humanitarian mapping efforts in Nepal.

Basic computer skills are helpful, but NO MAPPING OR GIS EXPERIENCE IS NECESSARY TO PARTICIPATE!!!

See below for more information on both OSM and Nepal.

OpenStreetMap (OSM) can be thought of as the Wikipedia of maps. It is run by a self-organized community of volunteers. OSM democratizes the production and use of map data. To learn more about OSM see this helpful step-by-step guide.

While Nepal is one of the most exposed countries to natural hazards, civic and public agencies have limited data to assess risk and plan for disaster. A growing community is coordinating with OSM Nepal to digitize building footprints.  This infrastructure data will directly inform public decision-making to mitigate risk.

Thanks again, especially to Liz, Alyssa & Serge for organizing the edit-a-thon. I liked Maproulette.

    Hey Alyssa and McKay,
What ended up being the "magic" that got JOSM to work on the PC?
    I'd love to know.
    Great seeing everyone yesterday!

not sure. i deleted the multiple JOSM downloads and simply started JOSM. it was magic.

my machine is getting wonky in its old age, liz -in part related to shrinking space on the hard drive: it's certainly true that alyssa's magic fingers were responsible for bringing the josm up. it was really nice to meet you both.
