GoGeomatics Ottawa May Social

Please join GoGeomatics Canada for our May Social! You will meet professionals, entrepreneurs, professors, recruiters, and students at this event. We love to talk GIS, remote sensing, and surveying. This month's Social will take place Friday, May 30th (7 PM) at the James Street Pub at 390 Bank Street. Socials are always fun and free. So stop by for some a pint and a chat. Feel free to bring friends and colleagues.

This month’s speaker will be Fabien Ancelin of OSGeo. Fabien’s talk will focus and expand on the OSGeo’s initiative of “Geo for All (http://www.geoforall.org/).” He’ll briefly cover what the OSGeo is, what it does, and why it’s important today. OSGeo’s “Geo for All” is an educational initiative to promote spatial education to all through open source spatial software.

Fabien is a GIS analyst, particularly interested in GIS for transportation and open source technologies. He works with multiple technologies with ESRI business partners and companies that rely heavily on open source in Ottawa. Since May, Fabien has worked as a developer at ESRI Canada, but has stayed involved in the open source world as the co-chair and developer of OSGeo Ottawa. He believes that open source provides an alternate and complementary path, while empowering people.
