Wednesday Evening Open House - Cutting Through Spiritual Materialism

Details
Our Wednesday evening Open Houses are a time to practice meditation together, and then enjoy a talk or guided practice, followed by good conversation over tea and cookies.
This series of talks will range over themes drawn from our rich body of Buddhist and Shambhala teachings, and be given by teachers in training, as well as current teachers from our sangha.
Our May Open House will feature a talk by Colin Cordner on spiritual materialism as a particular obstacle that we bring to our paths and into our lives, and how to cut through it.
The Tibetan meditation master Chogyam Trungpa Rinpoche broke this down in the allegory of “The Three Lords of Materialism” - the Lord of Form, the Lord of Speech, and the Lord of Mind. The Lords of Materialism represent our tendency to use things, ideas, and even spirituality to reinforce our psychological cocoons and avoid a genuine encounter with ourselves and the world.
At our Open House, we’ll take a gentle look at how these tendencies manifest for us, and how to meet them with our meditation practice.
We look forward to seeing you and share these teachings with you.
