Back to the Days of Future Passed

Agile Software Development celebrated its 20th birthday this year. It arrived in early 2001 as an effort to consolidate the work of several individual lightweight processes into a single, cohesive set of values and principles. It was a heady time, with much excitement and optimism among us early adopters that we were at the forefront of a revolution in how software was delivered, and that we were going to change the world for the better! In those 20 years there have indeed been numerous successes, but many would argue that Agile hasn't lived up to its hype. This talk explores what, if anything, went wrong, what went right and how we can recover the optimism and excitement of those early days!

Dave Rooney is a veteran Agile Coach, Speaker, Manager and Programmer who has been at this software thing since the 80's. He has a deep interest in the human factors involved in the effective delivery of software that delights its customers, and in promoting practices that make the work environment both more humane and fun. In the 40 years since he solved his first real-world problem on an Apple ][+, Dave still enjoys getting his "hands dirty" by writing code!
