Aristotle says that a good life is inconceivable without good friendship. Having heard that, my daughter went on facebook and acquire hundreds of "friends".
This begs the question, who is a friend? What are the criteria for being a friend? How do friends improve your life? What are your expectations of your friends? Should friends even have expectations from each other? What are the differences between acquaintances and friends? How do you make friends? How many friends do you have? How many do you need? Is it hard to have friends that really matter? Who is a true friend?
In our world of internet, work at home, population mobility and ever increasing isolation from family, tradition and each other, lack of friends and loneliness have become deadly. Having friends and support have never been more important.
So what does a friend mean to you?
Btw, my daughter has less than 10 friends in spite of what her facebook says.
