Stories are at the root of human culture and have been the cornerstone of oral and written tradition for millennia. What is it about stories that makes them powerful? Recently businesses have recognized the power of stories, making storytelling a sought-out skill in sales, marketing and product strategy. In this talk I want to shed some light on the key elements of story and storytelling and why they are so relevant to business success today. Finally I want to share some examples of story-telling techniques I use when defining and designing products.

About Ron

Ron Gagnier is a champion of customer experience, product design and design thinking. He has worked in the design studios of IBM, started the design program at Halogen Software, been a design consultant with start-ups and enterprise companies for 20 years and currently acts as the resident design expert at Invest Ottawa. He is an outspoken advocate for design thinking and delivers fun, memorable workshops around the city. As a design consultant and business mentor for start-ups Ron has observed most struggle to utilize design to deliver the best customer experience they can. Ron works with a company to develop the design strategy needed for success. When Ron isn’t evangelizing the merits of design he can be found at a local ice rink with his kids or playing the guitar.

Joelle was previously founder of Epic Perks a buying group providing preferred corporate pricing to over 250,000 small businesses. She then had the idea for XPR after moving to LA where she resourcefully found ways to access the most unique and incredible experiences. Many reached out to her asking how she was doing it and saying how much they wanted to try these types of experiences. That's when she knew she'd found her next mission and XPR was born.
