Our name blends "Ottawa" with "WOC" (Women of Colour) to reflect our focus on connecting and celebrating the diverse women in our city. Our mission is to create a safe and supportive space where young women of diverse voices can connect, share experiences, and inspire each other 🤝. We offer opportunities for networking, meaningful conversations, and personal growth tailored to the unique challenges and opportunities faced by women in this dynamic stage of life 🌺. As we navigate the evolving landscape of inclusive and antiracist language, we recognize that some individuals may not identify with terms like "WOC" or "POC." However, in the context of this group, which is specifically dedicated to women of colour, the term “Women of Colour” is intended to unite, transcend, embrace, and welcome Women of Colour from all shades and all walks of life and experiences, and it is intended to focus on the lived experiences of women who have been historically and systematically marginalized and excluded because of their race, ethnicity, and/or the colour of their skin. Simply put, the term WOC in the context of this group is a solidarity definition, a commitment to work in collaboration with other oppressed women of colour who have been minoritized ✊✊🏼✊🏽✊🏾✊🏿.
