Day Hiking Trip to Cliff Lake located in the Dinkey Lakes Wilderness
Details
Hello All. Otto and I were not able to acquire a wilderness pass into the Dinkey Lakes Wilderness. Forest Service Rangers have not reviewed the area for whatever they need to review, lol. That means no backpacking overnight stays at Cliff Lake in the Dinkey Lakes Wilderness over the Memorial Day Weekend. However, day hiking is available. Therefore, Otto and I will be taking a day hike instead. We will leave Fresno a 6 am Saturday morning. I will not be camping at the Buck Meadow Campground, because it will not be open over the weekend. I do not want to camp at the trailhead. If you want to meet us at the trailhead Saturday morning, let me know. It takes about 2.5 hours to get to the trailhead from downtown Fresno. Here are the directions--Take Hwy 168 east from Clovis towards Prather. Continue through Prather to Shaver Lake. Just before you reach Shaver Lake turn right on the Dinkey Creek Road. Travel 11.7 miles east to the intersection of the Dinkey Creek Road and the McKinley Grove Road. Turn right and travel 9.6 miles north on the McKinley Grove Road. As one gets closer to Courtright, turn left at the intersection which lead one to either Courtright or Wishon. Carry on until the reservoir is reached. Then, bearing left, going past the reservoir parking lot and boat launch, follow the last stretch of road to the trailhead. For me this will be a good warmup for hiking at altitude!
