Backpacking Trip to Red Rock Basin in the John Muir Wilderness

Details
Otto and I will be backpacking to the Red Rock Basin, which is located in the western portion of the John Muir Wilderness. This event will take place over the 4th of July Weekend. We will head out, from Fresno, to the Buck Meadow campground on Thursday at 5 pm. On the way, we will pick up the wilderness pass in Prather. After spending the night at Buck Meadow, we will awake early, make and drink coffee, eat breakfast, then head out to the Maxon trailhead--getting there no later than 9 am. in the John Muir Wilderness. More info will be provided over the next week. We are thinking of spending one night at Buck Meadow and two nights in the wilderness. On Friday, we will backpack 8 miles to an unnamed lake and set up camp. After spending the night at the lake, we will head out to Red Rock Basin, which is a 3 mile hike on a Saturday, and set up camp. My goal, once reaching the Basin, is to day hike to Mt. Shinn, which is on the north edge of the basin, and if possible summit the peak. On Sunday, we will return to the Maxon trailhead after traveling 11 miles!
