What we’re about
Many of us find ourselves plunged into caring for our ageing parents suddenly. While the conventional medical system and the real estate businesses have been developing systems to capitalize on our elders, when we visit the "assisted living" options, it begs the question of whether there's much health or much care in the "healthcare" being offered. Are you reading book titles like "The End of Alzheimers" too? Are you struggling against your parents' doctors to get your folks off medications that are not helping and may be harming them? Are you wondering about how you're going to want to age in a few more years? Are you concerned about the "nutrition" and neuro-toxins in "memory care" facilities?
I'd like to offer/ receive two supports with this group: First, moral support and a place to vent and commiserate with others who are not just acquiescing to the status quo. Secondly, let's create some true solutions that offer our parents real care and dignity; let's explore ways to work within the System to increase our parents' welfare while we create new options outside the system. Dementia is not irreversible. That's a lie. I love treasure hunts. This is the most important treasure hunt of our lives. Who's in?
