On December 15 PDA-CA co-hosted an impeachment rally at Waterfront Park (the county admin building) with Move-On, Indivisible, and Our Revolution. A few days later Trump was impeached by the largest majority in the House of Representatives in History.. That part I understand.
The next step is for it to go to the Senate for a trial. This is harder to visualize.
The Senate majority leader is colluding with Trump's lawyers on how to run a quick trial with no witnesses. As a result the Speaker of the House won't had the case over to the Senate. The Senate is not likely to suddenly decide to have a fair trial, so what is the strategy? If the trail proceeds and quickly ends with an acquittal, can the House restart the process? If so. is that part of the strategy? If somehow Trump was found guilty, would he be removed from office? And what would be the approach to get that done?
What does history tell us should happen? What does the Constitution say? Marjorie Cohn, Professor Emerita at Thomas Jefferson School of Law, a national constitutional/legal commentator and a member of the PDA board of advisors.
Professor Cohn will be joined in the forum by Robert Vryheid, a key organizer of, and a keynote speaker at the San Diego impeachment rally.
