A hike around the Vanishing Lake (Loughareema) and the Carnanmore passage tomb near Ballycastle.

The route will take us around the mysterious Vanishing Lake (Loughareema) and up to the trig point and Neolithic passage tomb on the top of Carnanmore. Weather permitting, we'll take some time to find the cup marks and concentric circles which adorn the stones. Our return route will pass through Watertop Farm and Ballypatrick Forest.

Level: Amber (moderate hike)

Meeting Point:
We meet Exchange street car park, leaving at 10am. There we can share cars or give lifts to anyone who needs one. Please DM us if you need this.
Alternatively you can meet us at the start of the walk: car park at Ballypatrick Forest Park on the A2 Cushendall Road. The walk will begin at 11.30am.
Please try to be at your meeting point at least 10 mins before these times.
(If travelling from Belfast I would recommend avoiding the coastal road as it's popular with cyclists on a Sunday morning)

Terrain:
The distance is approximately 14km with ascent of approximately 300m, taking @5 -6 hours. This hike is not suitable for dogs as Watertop Farm has livestock grazing freely along the route.

What to bring:

  • Packed Lunch
  • Plenty to drink
  • Waterproof Jacket
  • Waterproof Trousers
  • Boots/Shoes with good grips
