NETWORK SERVICES BENCHMARK (NSB) HANDS-ON LAB
Pankur Agarwal and Muthurajan (M Jay) Jayakumar will be offering a hands-on lab for Network Service Benchmarking (NSB). NSB extends the yardstick framework to do VNF characterization and benchmarking in three different execution environments - bare metal i.e., native Linux environment, standalone virtual environment, and managed virtualized environment (e.g., OpenStack, etc.)

If you are interested in attending this NSB hands-on lab, please install and Configure the Oracle VM VirtualBox* on your laptop prior to attending the session. Step-by-step instructions can be found at https://software.intel.com/en-us/articles/dpdk-on-the-go-profile-dpdk-applications-on-windows-laptop . Complete Step 1 through Step 5.

CONTAINERS AND OPENSTACK HANDS-ON LAB
Robert Starmer returns with an updated hands-on lab session highlighting the benefits that Container technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes bring to OpenStack. A 20-year veteran of the Silicon Valley tech scene, Robert is the Founder and CTO of Kumulus Technologies, a boutique consulting and education company that has long focused on OpenStack integration. This lab does not require a prerequisite.

BUILDING AN OPENSTACK HANDS-ON LAB
John Studarus will be facilitating a hands-on lab where you will build your own OpenStack cloud to run IoT devices (using NodeRed) and containers (using Magnum). No experience required but you do need to bring a WiFi equipped laptop with a web browser and SSH client. You need to sign up at www.packet.net (http://www.packet.net/) ( http://www.packet.net/ ) and use code SDOPENSTACK to have a server reserved for your use. John runs the OpenStack San Diego user group and gives frequent talks on cloud security at the OpenStack Summit, SUSECON, and the O'Reilly Security Summit.

For the "Building an OpenStack Hands-on Lab" workshop, you'll be using physical servers provided by Packet Hosting to build your own private OpenStack cloud. Specifically, you'll be using one of their 'Type 1' servers, a 32 GB, 120GB x 2 SSD (RAID-1), 4 core Xeon server. Packet Hosting provides their servers by the hour. With code SDOPENSTACK, you'll get $25 of free credit. The 'Type 1' is $0.40/hour so the $25 credit will get you 62 hours of CPU use. You are welcome to keep using the lab after the meetup. You'll need to bring a WiFi equipped laptop to connect to the remote server.

Sign up at http://www.packet.net (http://www.packet.net/) and use code SDOPENSTACK for the free credit. You'll need to provide a credit card or PayPal account to get the $25 in free credit. Please sign up the day before the meetup so that your account will be setup for the meetup!
