About us

Rainbow Friends is a social group for people across Ireland who would like to meet new people, make friends and expand their social circle.

I have recently been invited to step into the organiser role for Rainbow Friends. I have been organising events in and for our community for over 20 years, going right back to my university days, and I really believe we need more opportunities for genuine connection, friendship and community.

Rainbow Friends already had a lovely purpose and I want to keep that spirit, while opening it up more widely across Ireland and bringing some new energy and ideas into the space.

My other group, Rainbow Connections, has more of a wellbeing and wellness focus. Rainbow Friends is a little different. This space is about fun, friendship, shared interests and simply getting out and doing things together.
Events might include films, theatre and plays, museums and exhibitions, walks, days out, meals, coffee, cultural events, creative activities, games nights, gigs, festivals, trips, weekends away or simply trying something new together.

But I do not want to define the group too tightly. Rainbow Friends is something to be co-created. If there is something you would love to do, somewhere you would like to visit, or an event you think people might enjoy, suggest it. Someone else may have been waiting for exactly the same thing.
You do not need to arrive knowing anyone. The whole purpose of the group is to make it easier to meet people and feel part of something.

Everyone is welcome, including couples, people coming alone, people who already know others in the group, and people who are completely new. We simply ask everyone to make an effort to be welcoming, inclusive and respectful of others.
We are also looking for co-organisers across Ireland.

Being a co-organiser does not have to mean taking on a huge role. It could be as simple as arranging a cinema trip in Cork, a museum visit in Dublin, a walk in Galway, a coffee meetup in Limerick, a night at the theatre, or inviting others along to something you were planning to do anyway.
If you would like to help shape the group, organise an occasional event, become a co-organiser, or simply bring an idea, please get in touch.

I would love Rainbow Friends to become a genuinely Ireland-wide social community that belongs to the people in it: somewhere to meet, have fun, try things, make friends and create more opportunities for connection.
Looking forward to seeing what we create together.
