On October 5, at 3:50 pm, Mt. Baker Group/Sierra Club will sponsor a Doctober screening of "The White House Effect" at the Pickford Film Center's Pickford Bay theatre at 1318 Bay Street, in Bellingham. This film is also showing at the Pickford on October 14, at 7:35 pm.

Excerpt description from the Pickford's website:
There was a fleeting moment in U.S. history when not only was climate change a widely accepted scientific fact, but the political and public will was also united in the need to mitigate it. You might be forgiven if you do not recall this more harmonious time—it was 35 years ago, after all, before “climate change is real” had been determined, by some, to be a partisan statement. This unsettling and powerful doc, assembled exclusively from stunning archival footage, brings us back in time to that earlier era, where we might have united to take meaningful climate action and prevented the crisis that faces us today: it traces the George H. W. Bush presidency’s stance on the climate crisis, how it went from acceptance and a whole-hearted desire to confront the issue . . . to denialism and anti-environmentalism in just a few short years.
