What we’re about
This group is for people that like to have fun and adventure in the great outdoors; hiking in the foothills and mountains, camping, funyaking on the French Broad, whitewater rafting on the Nolichucky, biking the Virginia Creeper, outdoor live music, backpacking, spelunking and more. The hikes I lead will be rated either "Moderate", "Difficult" or "Strenuous" and most are what I would call aerobic hiking, but with lots of short stops to appreciate what Mother Nature has to show us! I'm open to others leading easier hikes and making suggestions. An example of "Moderate" would be the Lake Norman State Park "Lake Shore Trail" with one rest/food stop in the middle and some short water breaks etc. I've had several Red Cross first aid courses over the years, including the outdoor trauma course. See all- Catawba Falls Trail 3074 Catawba River Rd, Old Fort, NC 28762Catawba Falls Trail , Old Fort, NC
An area favorite, we'll hike the Catawba Falls River and Ridge loop trail. At 3.6 miles with an elevation gain over 850 feet, doing this loop once is a Easy Side of Difficult hike, twice is good for anybody that wants it. The trail offers a variety of terrains, including stairs, rolling hills and boardwalk sections.
There are several overlooks as well as the highlight of the trail, the "stunning" upper falls. There are metal steps and grated walkways along the route, so those with dogs or fear of heights use caution.
Afterwards we can visit Hillman Beer featured on PBS as craft brewery of the high country with large selction of brews and a full menu with outdoor seating by the river. Hillman Beer 78 Catawba Ave, Old Fort, NC 28762
