Bicycle Aurora Cranksgiving Ride!
Details
Times are tough. We see it everyday in the news. Let's do a small thing to try and help those who may be in need. Let's have a Cranksgiving Ride!
The idea behind Cranksgiving has been going for many years across America and Bicycle Aurora is reviving this for our local community. The idea is to use your bike, ride to grocery stores, drug stores, etc. and get creative shopping to pick up things like hygiene items, non-perishiable food items (canned veg, canned fruit, canned meats, pastas, rice, beans, bottled sauces, etc.) and meet up at a location, then ride to the a local non-profit food pantry and donate the items for those less fortunate. How much you budget for your donation is up to you, just make sure you can carry the items safely while riding your bike.
If you don't have time for the ride, please feel free to collect items and stop by the Municipal Center meeting point around 11:45 to 12:15 on Thursday and drop off stuff with the riders, we'll make sure it gets to Little Flower on your behalf. I will have a bicycle cargo trailer with me for excess items you may have or want to donate and don't feel comfortable riding with...)
For this event, take the next few days to gather those items (hygiene items or non-perishable food items, or a small cash donation, if you are so inclined) and join us on our ride to Catholic Charities Little Flower Center this coming Thursday at noon to help the local people of Aurora who may be going through some tough times.
We'll meet at the Municipal Center bike maintenance stand and ride the Highline Canal Trail, north up to the Tollgate Trail and over via the 13th/12th Ave on street bike lanes (D12 regional), then west to the CCLF building (14th and Lansing St.) to drop off what we have collected or have to donate. About 12 miles roundtrip, flat on regional trails on on-street bike routes at a 10-12 mph pace, and no-drop, obviously. Return to Municipal Center is the reverse route. Easy peasy.
