Birdsboro Reservoir quest- 10 mi, 1,600' elevation gain. Swift pace

Details

Snapshot:
Intensity/Classification: Moderate +
Length: 10 miles
Duration: about 3 1/2 hours of moving time
Estimated Average Pace: 3.2-3.5 mph
Elevation: 1,600 feet
DESCRIPTION:
The Birdsboro Reservoir/Preserve is known for it's scenic views and a variety of trails. I put together a custom 10 mile trek that will take us past the quarry to Trap Rock, the Reservoir Dam and parts of Hay creek. Note will be utilizing a cable crossing (twice) to get across the creek. This can be challenging as it is simply one cable over another- one for footing and other for hands to grab. If you fall, you get wet ( and most likely laughed at IF you don't get hurt). I have never been here before, but it is not that high off the water judging by the picture.

Pack some patience as I have never been here before and my route has lots of turns and crisscrossing of trails. This is NOT a beginner hike given the pace and distance nor is it one of my advanced hikes. Best way to describe is an enjoyable fitness like hike. We will move at a decent clip, but you will be able to enjoy scenery and hold a conversation. Expect brief stops at a few scenic spots and we will take a short snack break at some point.

GEAR REQUIRED:
1- Proper footwear- hiking boots or trail runners
2- Appropriate clothing for conditions: layers, wind and rain protection based upon forecast. Extra socks for wet weather hikes or hikes with stream crossings.
3- WATER or other source of hydration; food/snacks as needed and suggested for hikes over 8 miles
4- Electrolytes for warm weather hikes
5- Hiking poles and backpacks as needed.
6- Sunscreen, bug spray and bear spray as desired

WEATHER: Heavy rain or storms will cancel and reschedule.

PARKING AND MEETING LOCATION:
We will meet at the Rustic Park parking area off of Haycreek Rd. See Meetup PIN for exact location.

GUEST, ATTENDANCE and DOG POLICY:

  1. Unless otherwise posted, all attendees must be members of Outdoor Adventure Friends. This is for communication purposes to ensure that those in attendance understand exactly what they are signing up for.
  2. Please be courteous and change your rsvp in a timely fashion if you can no longer attend an event. Repeated no shows or a history of signing up and dropping off excessively when there is a waitlist will exclude you from being moved off of future waitlists and special events
  3. Unless otherwise posted, friendly well behaved dogs are welcome on hikes. Simply ask that you follow leash guidelines and post in comments so other attendees know a dog will be there. NOTE: some hikes may involve rock scrambles or conditions not suitable for a dog. In addition, some places we hike do not allow animals. It is your responsibility to read description carefully and make appropriate decision as well as ensure place we are hiking at allows animals.

PLEASE NOTE: I cannot respond to calls, texts, emails, messages on meetup, or comments on the event page once we start hiking. Please plan accordingly.

NOTICE: Meetup organizers are not professionally trained. By attending an event you are agreeing that YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR YOUR OWN SAFETY AT ALL TIMES. No member of the group EXCEPT YOURSELF can be held responsible for any damages, accidents, or liabilities incurred while hiking with us.
