OCEAN GATE TO BERKELEY ISLAND PARK AND THE BARNEGAT BAY---15 ---16 MILES

If you are new to my hikes you have to message or email me before you can register. Priority on my hikes will be given to those who regularly attend or who cancel their reservation at least 24 hours ahead of time.

This hike begins on Ocean Gate Boardwalk and follows Barnegat Bay as we walk along Bayview Avenue .This part of the route reminds me of Richard DeKorte Park in Lyndhurst,NJ as it offers panoramic views of wetlands and waterways.We might even see an Osprey or two. .We continue through beautiful Berkeley Township neighborhoods on to Berkeley Island Park. The Berkeley Island Park is 25 acres and offers spectacular views of Barnegat Bay.The park is situated on a scenic peninsula jutting out into the calm waters of Barnegat Bay.This location provides possibly the best view go the Bay in Ocean County. .On Berkeley Island we will have lunch at the picnic tables.This hike is for the experienced hiker, 3- 3.2 MPH, 15 -16 miles.We will be walking on roads with traffic but the scenery is magnificent .We first pass the 100 year old Historic AT+T High Seas Radio Station at the Good Luck Point Site..This station allowed ship to shore telephone calls and it was once a state of the arts communication center..It was operational from the 1930's and provided high seas service to ships and overseas connections. It closed before Superstorm Sandy. We will be passing B2 Bistro+ Bar,2 miles from Ocean Gate Boardwalk .We continue to MJ's Bar and Grill (4.4 miles) for bathrooms and short break..Then we reach Berkeley Island Park in 2.6 miles.

Bring plenty of water, lunch, snacks and hiking boots or sneakers.There is a restroom at the Deli in Ocean Gate and also at Berkeley Island Park. There might be porta-potties on our route.At the beginning of the hike there are restrooms at Mill Creek Park--Riverbank Drive, Pine Beach ,NJ 08741 ,a short distance from Ocean Gate.
