Wednesday 9am hike Cheesequake

Details

Hooks Creek Lake
The plan is to do 5.5-6 miles on the trails at Cheesequake - at a moderate to BRISK (3 mph) pace - goal is to finish in about 2 hours. Please know your abilities! Our insurance covers you if you can maintain the advertised pace and stay between the leader and sweep. On this hike: Expect flat to rolling to hilly terrain - with a couple of longer, steeper hills- wooden walkways and stairs. Trails vary from dirt single track to some that allow side-by-side hiking. Plenty of woods, open fields and some pond, stream and marsh views. Also plenty of wildlife, wild flowers, but depends on the weather and season. These trails have a number of areas of uneven terrain and tree roots, so: Hiking boots/shoes are strongly suggested. Poles if you think you’ll need them. Things to bring: Water, bug spray, sun protection. We will MEET in the large HOOKS CREEK LAKE parking area - about a half mile past gatehouse / ranger building(modern restrooms). Please read signs carefully - bear left - avoid getting on GSP! There are seasonal Porto toilets at Hooks Creek Lake. Please arrive at least a few minutes early: To sign in, use rest room, gear up, meet others, hear safety talk. I’ll be next to my White Subaru Crosstrek, with black roof and kayak rack. If necessary, on morning of hike, my cell is: 732-433-8343.
