This is an out and back along the south side of of Round Valley Reservoir. It is a long and challenging hike so not for beginners.

We start from the parking lot at Pickell Park. It is behind the Readington Municipal Building where there might be public restrooms. From there we take the blue trail across farm fields to Cushetunk Mountain Preserve. Then it is a 500' elevation climb to the top of the ridge that runs around the reservoir.

After a left turn we traverse along the ridge picking up the red trail which we take down to a field by the reservoir which has a lovely view. Then we hike back up and over mighty Cushetunk Mountain. A daunting 833' high with no view or even a discernible peak. After descending the other side we travel out to Mannon Pond where we have lunch.

After lunch we hike back to the beginning gaining elevation again going over Cushetunk Mountain and the ridge we hiked over at the start.

Bring water, food, rain gear, and poles if you want. Only steady to heavy rain will cancel. If you need to contact me, my cell is 609-471-4119.
