Maurice River Bluffs Preserve
Details
5.5 mile moderate pace hike along The Maurice River. The preserve was the site a granary and a sand mining operation. The sand mining lasted 50 years until 1950. There are large sand depressions and mounds. There will be many ups and downs and evaluation changes. And several hundred steps to go up and down with nothing to hold on to. Wear sturdy boots and bring walking poles.
The new wellness garden at the beginning of the hike on the Orange and Blue Trails Bring will have accessible, firm trails, picnic tables and shaded seating areas. The garden will include a wildflower meadow and pine and persimmon groves. The improvements include the removal of invasive plants and the planting of a diversity of native flora.
Bathrooms? There may or may not be one in the parking lot.
Bring a snack, drink and lunch.
Arrive 15 minutes early to sign in. Dress for a wind chill from the river.
The preserve is 3 miles south of Rt. 49 in Millville.
