We are fortunate to have a Local (Fallbrook), Laine Gonzales, willing to tell us about her experience in travels to the Galapagos Islands! Read her comments below and put this on your calendars.

March 2nd, 4-6pm, French Valley Library. https://www.rivlib.info/branch/french-valley

"A trip to the Galapagos had long been on my bucket list, but I realized my visit -- as innocent as it was -- came at a cost to the island ecosystems. So, I sought a way to offset my impact. I volunteered on the Galapagos Project for one of my three weeks in the islands. This presentation covers some general info about the Galapagos with some pretty pictures to help set the scene then focuses on my volunteer experience".

For 30 years, Ramona Gonzales taught environmental education and high school science. She
simultaneously accrued a lifetime of experience working on conservation biology projects at home in the US and abroad. In Antarctica, she waded into the frigid Southern Ocean to collect plankton. She helped lasso Nile crocodiles in South Africa, fed captive sun bears in Borneo, and tagged nesting sea turtles in Costa Rica. She consistently used her experiences to create engaging classroom activities that challenged her students to think critically about real-world issues. Now that she has retired from teaching, she devotes more energy to her passions: travel, travel writing and photography.
