Details

Who’s ready to get outdoors feel some dirt under their feet, breathe some fresh air and sleep under a canopy of stars with some like-minded folks. If you are nodding yes, this event might be for you!

*PLEASE NOTE* This overnight is for all levels of backpackers but requires that you already have the BIG THREE below and have successfully used your gear on a previous backpacking adventure. That you are physically capable of carrying all that you need for this adventure on your own.
The Big Three:

  • Shelter-Typically a tent, tarp or hammock
  • Sleep system- Sleeping bag, quilt and ground mat or pad
  • Backpack- Large enough to carry all your necessary needs for the adventure

Everyone at sign up will be on the waitlist until we’ve had a chance to make sure the folks who were attending this canceled event due to the hurricane are accommodated first.
There will be two questions that MUST be answered to attend.

This adventure is not intended to be challenging with its mileage or terrain. You can expect to hike about 3ish miles to the camp. Where we will get set up then spend the afternoon after lunch exploring the surrounding area. Please pack accordingly for all weather and conditions as this is a rain or shine event unless incoming weather is deemed inclement.
*Note* The ticks have been out lately as well as the mosquitos with all the rain! Bring bug spray and I strongly suggest you pre-treat and spray your clothes, gear, socks and shoes with Permethrin for bugs and ticks. You can purchase it on line at amazon here_ [https://www.amazon.com/Sawyer-Products-Permethrin-Repellent-Clothing/dp/B08HJTXGS3?th=1 ](https://www.amazon.com/Sawyer-Products-Permethrin-Repellent-Clothing/dp/B08HJTXGS3?th=1)
As well as at your local outfitters.

What you should be bringing to the adventure:
*The big three… Backpack, shelter, sleep system.
*This is a dry area with no water sources. Bring enough water to get you through the adventure, a minimum of 3 liters. **We suggest you leave a gallon of water in your vehicle at the trailhead as we shall hike past our vehicles if need be on Saturday afternoon should Should anyone need more water.
*Enough snacks and calories to sustain you through Sunday.
*Headlamp and suggest extra batteries as we might explore some caves nearby on Sunday.
*Bring your food bag and hanging line if you have one or plan to sleep with your food in your shelter if you don’t. There has never been evidence of bears in the area we are camping in but the trash bandits (racoons) are plentiful. For anyone wanting to practice hanging or throwing a bear bag any of the leaders would be happy to help you. Bring a stuff sack and extra carabiner and we will be happy to add your food bag to our bear lines.
*Trash bag to pack out what you bring in!
*Some cash should we decide it's so hot we need ice cream from the small local store Deschamp corners a few miles away when we leave on Sunday. They also have great sandwiches for lunch on the way home.

For those interested we will possibly go explore some local caves a short drive from the trailhead on Sunday after we get packed up and take the shortcut back to our vehicles. I’d suggest that you bring some extra clothes to wear for exploring the caves as they will be wet and muddy from the recent rains.

**Important directions to the trailhead! There are several Annutteliga trailheads and you will want to make sure the one you load into your GPS is taking you to the one on Citrus Way/491 Brooksville Not the Annutteliga off of US-19. It might be easier to GPS Des Champs Corner - 15738 Ponce De Leon Blvd, Brooksville, FL 34601 as from there is it about 2 miles heading North on Citrus Way/491. Look for the Large Brown wooden forestry sign for Annutteliga Hammock on your left. If you get to the Hebron Church you have pasted it by .2 miles.
**All participants must sign a liability release form upon arrival, adhere to all rules or decisions of the leaders prior to & during the event. By voluntarily signing up for this adventure you are in agreement to hold harmless any leaders or volunteers of this event and agree to take whatever precautions you deem necessary for your own personal safety and needs.
