Free Ice Cream Sundaes - come and get it!!!

Welcome to the Newcomers Ice Cream Beach Hike at Zuma Beach (North of Malibu). What is better than combining three of summer's favorite activities together, the beach, a hike, and ice cream? And not just ice cream, but a full on ice cream sundae bar -YMMMM!!!! Best of all, the ice cream is free –courtesy of the 20s’ and 30’s Section of the Sierra Club! You can even stick around and enjoy the beautiful sunset at 8PM. The beach walk/hike will start at the South end of Zuma , near Point Dume. We will the walk to Paradise Cove and come back. We will explore the tide pools on the hike. You might see clams, starfish, and sea anemones hidden along the exposed rocks. This beginners beach hike of 4 miles and 400 Ft. gain provides great scenic views of the islands and If we are lucky, migrating whales.

Bring a camera if you like, 2 quarts water, money, sunscreen, and lunch/snack. The rocks may be slippery and there is a chance your feet can get wet so wear something appropriate (not open toe sandals).

You can meet at one of the carpool locations or create your own carpool and meet us in the parking lot.

Carpool location 1) Corner of Stuart Ranch Road and Civic Center Way by 2:45 PM (We will leave at 3 pm sharp). Please meet us near the bus stop here. If you can’t find parking at 23555 Civic Center Way Malibu, CA 90265 then I suggest parking 2 blocks away (around the corner) at Malibu City Hall at 23815 Stuart Ranch Road, Malibu, CA. PLEASE NOTE: There is a Malibu Arts Festival happening here so parking may be a little difficult- so allow time to find a parking space.

Carpool location 2) Woodland Hills (San Fernando Valley). The meeting place is Taft High School located at 5461 Winnetka Avenue CA 91364-2592. Just pull into the parking lot near the corner of Winnetka Ave and Ventura BLVD. Please meet at 2:30PM (We will leave at 2:45 sharp).

For those who want to meet at the trail head; meet at 3:30PM at Zuma near Point Dume.

From Santa Monica to the trail head:
Take Pacific Coast Hwy North. Proceed approximately 7 miles north of Pepperdine University; drive past the stoplight called “Heathercliff Road and take very next left hand turning lane without a stoplight called “Westward Beach Road”. The trail head is at the end of the road and at the end (South End) of the parking lot. For GPS: you might want to enter 6800 Westward Beach Road, Malibu which is a restaurant called The Sunset that is very close to the trail head; from there just keep going south until you get to the very end of parking lot (you will see a cliff at the end).

From the Valley to the trailhead:

Take the 101 North and exit at Las Virgenes Canyon (Malibu Canyon) Road. Make a left at the light and take the canyon until you reach PCH, where you will make a right. Proceed approximately 7 miles north of Pepperdine University; drive past the stoplight called “Heathercliff Road and take very next left hand turning lane without a stoplight called “Westward Beach Road”. Parking fee at the trail head is $10. Hence, we encourage carpooling. However, there is an opportunity to avoid the fee by parking outside the parking lot and walking in – this could take some time as you will be a half mile or more away.

Note: This is a Sierra Club event and you will have to sign a release waiver at the event.
