Hike Theo Wirth Park followed by socializing at Utepils Brewing

Details

Let's enjoy a hike through Theo Wirth park! We'll hike through the park for a total of about approximately 6 miles. The pace will be about a 16:00 minute mile. Pace can vary depending upon the participants. This pace can be considered fast. If you're unsure about the pace, check it out with a free app on your smart phone. The leaders use Map My Run to keep pace & distance. Another option is to go 4 mph on a treadmill, or map out 4 miles with your car and see if you can do that in an hour. With terrain, 16:00 minutes miles are just as fast as 4 mph on a treadmill.

Dogs are welcome. They must be on a leash and the owner must pick up after them, if necessary.

We'll meet in the parking lot adjacent to Wirth Lake Beach in front of the pavilion.

After the hike we can go to Utepils Brewing which is very close by (address is 225 Thomas Ave N, Mpls, MN 55045) and socialize with our fellow hikers. For socializing, it is recommended to bring a dry shirt to change into after the hike. It helps to prevent chills from being warm hiking to cooling down while socializing.

Things to know for hiking:
1. Dress in layers. It may be cool at the start, but you will warm up while hiking. Layers allows you to remove a layer, if needed. Ideally, dress for about 10-15 degrees warmer than the temp/windchill.
2. Decent shoes. It isn't any fun to end up with a blister preventing hiking for a bit, or having your legs/feet hurt at the end of the hike.
3. Bring water as desired.

As a precaution for every event, please do not leave valuables in your car. There has been an uptick in car break-ins around the Twin Cities and it isn't worth it.

The route is not predetermined. If you get separated from the group, another free app that is useful is All Trails. Use the park location to pull up various trails. Clicking on the map will show you which trail you are on and will help you to get back to your car.

Please keep your RSVP updated. It is difficult to know if the leaders should wait for someone (in case traffic is bad) when they may not be planning to go at all. Keeping your RSVP updated is the polite thing to do, and we are Minnesota NICE :) If you are sick, please update your RSVP to not going. No one wants to get sick.

By signing up and attending the hike, you agree to take personal responsibility for anything that may happen and hold the event hosts & leaders harmless from injury.

Hope to see you there!
