Annual Halloween Costume Hike -Schultz Trailhead Lebanon Hills

Details

6th annual costume hike, Halloween party. Find your best costume, let the inner kid out, abandon being an adult for the day, and join us for our annual Halloween costume hike! This hike is a lot of fun and gives us adults a chance to be a kid again. Fabulous prizes will be awarded for the best costume(s). Feel free to bring candy to hand out to the kids on the trail if you wish.

After the hike, there is a Halloween party at Mimi’s house. Everyone is welcome!! Address will be provided at the hike or can be obtained by contacting Mimi or Patty. BYOB and a dish to share. If you want to drop something off prior to the hike, please coordinate with Mimi (or Patty). If the weather cooperates, the party is held outside. There will be a fire table (unless too hot outside). Please bring a chair. Outdoor games will be available. Dogs are welcome but they must stay outside.

Hike information:

  • Costumes are worn on the trail. The looks, stares & smiles we get from others on the trail are too fun to miss!
  • We’ll hike at a pace between 15:30 & 16:00 minute miles for 6ish miles. This is still fast - especially in costume.
  • The trail is not paved and has rocks and roots. Decent shoes for hiking is necessary. If your costume needs special shoes, please bring a 2nd pair for hiking.
  • Bring water as you feel necessary.

By signing up for this hike, you agree that you can keep the pace posted. Since terms like "moderate" can mean different things to different people, times are listed for the pace. If you’re not sure how fast the times are, assume fairly fast. If you do not know times, you can check out your time with a free app that uses GPS for your smart phone or watch. Map My Run is a good option and what is used to monitor the pace on the hike.

Want to go further? Join the leaders for a prehike for about 2 miles starting at 8:45 AM. We will be back for the main hike.

Please note: If you fall behind and don’t keep up with the group, the hike leader will not wait for you, or go back looking for you as everyone else is relying on the leader to keep the hike moving. There are maps all around the park to use to guide you back to the Visitor Center.

Things to bring or wear: water as you need, decent hiking or tennis shoes. The terrain is not too bad, but it is not paved trail so decent shoes are necessary.

PLEASE update your RSVP if you cannot attend after you sign up! Drops after 9:15 AM Saturday morning OR individuals that are signed up and do not attend the hike (without explanation prior to the event) will be considered no-shows. Future attendance for no-shows may be limited. It is very difficult to know if the leader should wait for someone if the RSVP is not updated.

By signing up you agree to release the organizers, event hosts and other members of the event from any liability. The trails may be muddy if there was recent rain, or dusty, have rocks or tree roots that sneak up out of the ground and trip you :) Be prepared for whatever the weather or trail may throw at us!
