🌅 Trip Description
We’ve designed this holiday to show you the greatest walks that this area has to offer as well as some of its world famous sights. The Amalfi Coast is dotted with seaside towns rich in history and boasts a timeless beauty interspersed with a lively, Italian buzz and vibrancy. A place you can really explore nature one minute in the remote mountains and feel really alive in the lively, Italian buzz by the sea a short while later.
Our hikes take us along ancient paths and mule tracks where in many places time has stood still. We’ve picked some great hikes that showcase this landscape and offer some awe inspiring views. We never quite escape the coastal views and the ever present sparkling turquoise sea below, reminding us just how high up these mountains are.
The Amalfi Coast is a very steep coastline where villages cling to steep rocky hillsides defying logic and almost gravity, with houses coloured in gentle pastel shades.
Good to know:
This trip is best suited to fit, experienced hikers, and proper hiking boots are essential.
Some hikes cross rocky and uneven terrain, and in a few places the use of hands may be required. Certain sections may not be suitable for those who suffer from vertigo.
In places, the mountain roads are twisty, which may affect anyone prone to travel sickness.

📅 Itinerary
Friday – Arrival & Transfer to the Guest House
There is a single fixed time complimentary transfer from the airport to our accommodation. We will then enjoy a relaxing evening meal and have time to get to meet each other in our wonderful rural mountainous surroundings. Our guest house is set outside the village a 10 to 15 minute walk away, so we escape the noise and stay in a more tranquil setting. The Guest House has an unheated swimming pool - subject to it being operational (it usually is).
Saturday
• Hike: Bomerano circular
• Distance: 10km (6 miles)
• Grading: Intermediate, one tough uphill
• Ascent: 490m
Today we have a lovely circular hike from our guest house. We take in a summit by Monte Tre Calli (1122m high) from which we can get some great and far reaching views of the Peninsula as well as the mountain villages near where we are staying. A short but perfect hike to get to know the area and get our bearings.
After the hike, you'll have free time to explore the charming village of Bomerano or unwind on the sun loungers by our private pool. There’s also an optional visit to a local Limoncello workshop for a tasting experience.
Sunday
• Hike: Bomerano to Amalfi via Valle delle Ferriere Park
• Distance: Approx 16km (10 miles)
• Grading: Intermediate, some rough and uneven tracks
• Ascent: 480m
• Descent: 1100m
Another hike where we start from the guest house, we have some road walking at the start before departing into the dense wooded mountains on a breath taking trail that provides ever more tempting views of the lush wooded valleys and coastline that we will be exploring. With waterfalls, ancient ruins, mountain rivers and dreamy views this is quite a spectacular day of hiking. To finish it off we hike past scented lemon groves on a trail that delivers us to the coastal town of Amalfi which opens to the sea like a fan. We’ll have time to explore Amalfi’s historic streets and get some well deserved refreshments.
Monday - Free day
Why not take the time to yourself to relax by the guest house pool, indulge in one of Bomeranos numerous cafes or explore the surroundings? You can get a bus from Bomerano to Amalfi and then a bus or boat onto most locations on the Amalfi Coast.
Or you can visit Ravello - a small town considered to be one of the most romantic and beautiful places in southern Italy. Settled on steep terraced slopes high above sea level - this lovely town inspires with memorable coastal views high above the coast below.
Should you desire a more exotic experience - you can visit the island of Capri. Capri is one of Italy’s most stunning islands – a favourite for Roman Emperors several of whom built their villas here.
There is no guide for today, it is a free day and whatever option you choose is self guided, the guide can advise on options and logistics.
Tuesday - Day trip to Vesuvius and Pompeii
Vesuvius is a world renowned volcano that dramatically brought an end to the Roman town of Pompeii in its great eruption of 79 AD. Its fertile soil helps provide some of the great tasting local tomatoes and grapes for the local wines.
Pompeii is an experience to visit, the ruins being mesmerising, fascinating and quite poignant. It’s surprisingly well preserved for a 2000 year old town and is huge, a true time capsule from the days when the Roman Empire ruled much of the world as you walk around this Roman town. Pompeii offers a fascinating glimpse into the everyday life of the ancient Roman world including the remains of bakeries, brothels, baths and numerous cobbled streets. You can explore this site either by yourself or join the private organised tour we arrange with our local guide.
Visiting Vesuvius is subject to weather conditions and also tickets being released to the public for sale, they are not always available, if they are not available for our trip dates we will have a short walk on Vesuvius to a historic lava flow instead of visiting the summit.
Wednesday
• Hike: The famous "Sentiero degli dei" (Path of the Gods)
• Distance: Various options, the longest is 20km (12 miles)
• Grading: Intermediate/Challenging depending on option you choose
• Ascent/Descent: Various options from 350m to 780m
We’re saving this epic hike until our last full day. We hike a winding trail that delicately hugs the rugged mountains as it follows their twists and turns. We get the most dramatic and lofty views of the trip as for much of the hike we can look down to the sea far below. We pass ancient houses, vineyards, woodland and a goat farm.
We visit Positano – considered to be the most picturesque and photogenic town on the coastline. Steeply stacked houses literally tumble down the mountain towards the sea dotted with the most diverse range of pastel colours creating quite a captivating setting. We explore the town losing ourselves in a maze of alleys, a visit to the beach and no doubt a good cafe too are on the cards. You can also explore some very chic boutique shops.
Today offers several route options. The guide will hike the full Path of the Gods, continue down to Positano, and then return the same way to the guesthouse. You can choose to shorten the route at various points, with options including a coastal boat ride or a bus journey. On the day, you can decide whether to take the public bus into Positano or walk down the roughly 1,700 steps.
Thursday – Departure
After breakfast, we head to the airport.
• If you’d like to stay on, Rome is just 1 hour 15 minutes away by high-speed train from Naples, with regular flights back to London.

• You can extend your stay in Naples to explore its museums, cafés and streets.
