Black Shoals Park, Randy Poynter Lake, Easy to Moderate 3 Miles, Conyers
Details
If you live in the vicinity (Loganville/North Rockdale County), you'll want to visit this peaceful, hidden gem often to hike, fish, kayak or just relax on the dock. And if you're new to hiking, this is a perfect place to begin with only mild elevation.
Weather permitting, join me for an easy to moderate 3-mile hike out-n-back that includes natural surface that leads to a small hidden piece of granite.
In the spring & early summer, some of the world’s rarest and most unusual plants thrive here (lichens, diamorpha (pink stuff), mosses and daisies), the rock outcrops are breathtaking, monadnocks are nestled in the woods surrounding a 650 acre reservoir: Randy Poynter Lake.
Also included is a short paved walk to the impressive Walk of Heroes Veteran's Memorial.
We'll meet at the restrooms at 11a near the boat dock and trailhead, head out after brief intros.
You'll need to register at the gate, free entry except to fish ($2).
My hiking style is slow/steady (approx 2 mph), break as needed, small group, and we start, hike & finish together. Please leave your furry 4-legged loved ones at home.
