Are you ready for an adventure? This is a more of a hike than what we usually do, but the scenery is beautiful. Please read the full description before signing up for this event.

The Green Ribbon Trail runs for about 8 miles. It goes through the woods alongside (and across!) the Wissahickon Creek, but we'll just walk 3 miles of it today. We'll follow the trail north to the Rotary Bridge, then return the same way. The total distance will be a little over 6 miles.

There are some brief stretches of pavement, but most of the trail is natural surface, including dirt, tree roots, rocks, and mud. There are some short but steep hills.

There are multiple places where we will cross the creek using stepping stones. We will also need to climb a short metal ladder, climb a few wooden steps, and cross several wood bridges that do not have rails. There are a few places where we'll need to step up onto a surface that 12+ inches high. The most direct route also requires stepping over a guard rail on the side of a moderately busy road.

We will need to cross several streets during our walk. Some of them are quite busy, and the places where we cross do not have crosswalks or traffic lights. You need to be able to walk quickly across the street to avoid speeding cars.

I strongly recommend wearing hiking shoes or work boots. Sneakers are quite uncomfortable on this trail. If you are at all unsteady on your feet I recommend bringing trekking poles or a walking stick.

Please review the photos and their captions before signing up for this event. You are responsible for your own safety.

We'll meet at the Hawk Observation deck. It's near the entrance to parking lot #5. I'll be wearing a bright orange hat. If you can't find us call me at 774-249-2494.

Please try to arrive a few minutes early so that we can leave on time.
