🥾 Description
This rewarding circular hike through some of the most distinctive landscapes in the High Weald. Starting near Ashurst, the route follows a series of gently undulating ridges above the Medway Valley before descending to cross the river into the quiet village of Withyham, with its striking historic church.
From here, the walk enters the expansive Buckhurst Estate and continues into Five Hundred Acre Wood, a large, atmospheric woodland offering a real sense of seclusion. The route then climbs steadily onto the open heath and wooded ridges of Ashdown Forest, the largest area of elevated heathland in south-east England.
A well placed viewpoint provides a chance to pause and take in the landscape before the descent towards Hartfield, a picturesque village closely tied to Milne’s life, with a chance to visit Pooh Corner for themed treats and souvenirs.
The return leg loops through classic Wealden countryside, with rolling fields and quiet paths leading back to the start.
