Beginner's Backpacking Trip along the Appalachian Trail

Whether you’re new to backpacking or looking to sharpen your skills, join us for an adventure as we prepare for and go on an overnight trip. This outing is designed to be an overview of the basic principles of backpacking and an opportunity to practice and use all that gear you just got from REI :)
We will review and practice:
• Planning and packing
• Leave No Trace principles
• Clothing
• Filtering water & preparing meals
• Setting up camp, hygiene, and safety
• Navigation and route planning
This outing will occur over 2 weekends:
- Backpacking Workshop on Sunday, Sept 8th @ 10am
- Backpacking Overnight Trip on Sat-Sun, October 5-6th.
The overnight backpacking trip will include a total distance of ~7 miles and an elevation gain of 1050 feet.

What to Bring: Confirmed participants will be provided a packing checklist and are encouraged to bring their gear to the planning session to familiarize and practice packing and using them. Limited gear rental may be at. Please contact the hike leader if you have questions.
Contribution and Costs: There will be a $45 fee to cover permits and logistics.
