Just as the name suggests, if you are keen to get outdoors and enjoy meeting new people we have a variety events in the North Canterbury region.

We are always looking for new ideas to support our local community. Please contact me if you would like to host an event or have an idea for the group.

👣Saturday Morning Walk @ Ashley/Rakahuri River

32 Milton Avenue

Join us for a 9km social walk down the Ashley/Rakahuri River Saturday Morning.

The Rakahuri Trail is a flat trail that runs alongside the Ashley/Rakahuri River.

We will meet in the BMX Track car park 32 Millton Avenue, Rangiora 7400 and aim to finish about 11:00 - 11:30pm

Beginners are welcome to walk at their own pace and we may split the group into a faster and slower group to accommodate fitness levels.

What to bring:
✔️ Suitable footwear (sneakers/trainers)
✔️ Water

We have received a number of queries relating to the COVID-19 protection framework and vaccine passes. To help out we have created a small set of guidelines to help us all safely operate within the protection framework and to help you determine if is this event is suitable for you.

✅ All are welcome to attend our outdoor events regardless of vaccine status, we aim to create a safe, inclusive environment that operates within the current COVID-19 Protection Framework (traffic lights).

✅ Outdoor Events:
• Outdoor events with mixed vaccine status allows up to 50 people per event.
• 1-metre social distancing is not required for outdoor recreational events; social distancing is recommend where possible.
• If you choose too, masks may be worn when participating in the event; under the framework masks are not required to be worn during recreational events.

✅ Conversational Topics - The COVID-19 pandemic has had a major effect on our lives where many of us are facing challenges that feel stressful, overwhelming, causing strong emotions. We encourage members to avoid controversial topics such as COVID-19 conspiracy theories and be respectful of all members views and feelings as we don't know what challenges others are going through 🙂

✅ Cafe Socialising after an event – As per Government mandated requirements, cafés require Vaccination Passports for entry and purchases; some cafés we use have contactless services available.

✅ Best practice is to always wear a face covering whenever you leave your home.

🚴 Saturday Morning Bike Ride @ Ashley/Rakahuri River (beginner/intermediate )

Join us with the "Out and About" MeetUp for a social bike ride around Ashley/Rakahuri River Saturday Morning and drinks/nibbles with the hiking group afterwards.

The Rakahuri Trail is a fun, two way shared trail that runs alongside the Ashley/Rakahuri River. Within the trail there is a dedicated mountain bike park which has areas of one way riding, offering you the freedom of knowing you have the trail to yourself. Enjoy the twists, turns and moguls. A great ride for the family and individuals.

We will meet in the BMX Track car park 32 Millton Avenue, Rangiora 7400 and aim to finish about 11:00 - 11:30pm

We are suitable for beginners and we will adapt the route to the fitness level of the group - in some cases we may split into two group to accommodate different fitness levels, e-bikes are welcome.

Walk Kaikoura’s hidden coastline & experience a private track like no other

Kaikoura’s coastal track is a breathtakingly beautiful two day walk. Discover a coast with abundant marine life, tussock covered tops and farmland. You’ll relax at lunch shelters with great views while enjoying a hot drink. You’ll tramp through bush filled gullies to views of the Seaward Kaikoura Mountains rising out of the vast Pacific Ocean.

Join us for this exclusive Waitangi Weekend getaway. Your hosts will take your luggage freeing you to walk unhindered. Each night you’ll enjoy comfortable upper-end backpacker accommodation provided by conservation minded farming families with a huge knowledge in the local area.

THE WALK: Suitable for most walkers
A reinvigorating walk for those of reasonable fitness, 13km per day
The track covers 26km of stunning scenery. Each day you’ll hike for about 4-6 hours giving you plenty of time to soak it all in.
One piece of luggage per person will be transported - no heavy packs to carry.
Uncrowded tramping - Only 10 people on the track per day !

🚵🏻 Lake Dunstan and Roxburgh Gorge 4 Day Cycle Trip (3 Nights)

Queenstown Airport

Join us for a luxury long weekend as we combine these two amazing cycle trails - Lake Dunstan and The Roxburgh Gorge over 4 days (3 nights)

GRADING – INTERMEDIATE: These trails are quite a bit steeper than the Otago Rail Trail and require more confidence and energy, be prepared for some climbs and downhill sections.
The Lake Dunstan and Roxburgh Gorge Trails have a mix of introductory and moderate trails that include some narrow, hilly and remote sections with some tight turns. If you are not a regular cyclist or are worried about these features, we recommend practicing riding on similar features at home before your trip. The more training you have done on compacted gravel and undulating hills the more enjoyable your trip will be.

ITINERARY:

DAY ONE – Arrive Queenstown
Ensure you arrive in time for our 2.00pm shuttle departing Queenstown Airport to Cromwell.

From Cromwell we collect our bikes and cycle 10km to our accommodation – Heritage Collection Lake Resort (Pisa Moorings)
For those wanting to get to the very end of the Lake Dunstan trail continue on Smith’s way and return our hotel (12km return).

Welcome Dinner and drink is included on our first night

DAY TWO – We cycle 10 km back to Cromwell in the other direction with new views and then continue 41km on the most popular part of the Lake Dunstan Trail to Clyde.

We leave our bikes at the Cromwell Depot for the night while we shuttle back to our accommodation at Lakes Resort (Pisa Mooring) for our 2nd night.

DAY THREE – Our shuttle takes us back to our bikes waiting in Cromwell to start the Roxburgh Trail (43km cycling). Cycle through the remote, idyllic Roxburgh Gorge and discover old gold mining relics and mining huts.
Enjoy a 13km jet-boat transfer, and gold mining history tour on the Clutha Mata-Au River in the middle of the trail.
From Roxburgh we transfer back to Queenstown for our last night at the Heritage Queenstown Resort.

DAY FOUR – Free day to explore Queenstown . Make your own way back to Queenstown airport for your departure flight.
