We've got a really cool weekend lined up for kayaking and 2 nights camping at Devil's Step Island at Tim's Ford State Park!
Per our RSVP question: You'll need access to a kayak or canoe to participate in this event. We may have access to some loaner kayaks, TBD. We can put loaner attendees on a wait list until closer to time when we can sort out how many spare kayaks we can round up.
We'll park at the Devil's Step Island boat ramp, leaving your car there overnight (or 2 nights if you're coming Fri - Sun). It's a 5-10 min paddle from the ramp to the island, depending on whether you'll be at Site #1 (South end of island) or Site #2 (North end of island). Both sites can accommodate 10 campers each. We will have the island to ourselves.
These are primitive sites: No power, water, restrooms, likely no cell service. Plan for back country camping and bring anything you might need: Food, water, battery pack for your phone, ability to prepare meals, toilet paper, tent, sleeping bag, pad, etc.
If you can manage a couple of bundles of firewood on your kayak, it will be appreciated by all!
We won't be far from the boat ramp, so you should easily be able to make a couple of there-and-back trips to your car to ferry your supplies out to the island. Dogs are allowed if they play well with others. Bring a leash in case they need to be wrangled.
Daytime activity options include: Chilling in a hammock, reading, swimming, exploring the 19th century cemetery on the island, kayaking Tim's Ford Lake during the day, hiking Tim's Ford Lake trails on the "main land," fireside hangs.
The boat ramp is 1hr 45mins from downtown Nashville. Earliest check-in to the campsites is at 4:00pm CST. We'd recommend getting there by 6:00pm so you have time to get to camp and set up before dark.
We are asking $10 per camper to cover the cost of the campsites. You can pay via Venmo ahead of time, or cash at the campsite.
See you out there!
