1.5 miles slow walking for 2 hours. Hispanic Heritage Month (Sept 15-Oct 15) is a perfect time for a walk through the many colorful murals and mosaics of Spanish (AKA East) Harlem. They reveal so much about the history, culture, and politics of this neighborhood and its residents. Some are dedicated to accomplished citizens of New York and beyond. Others have strong political messages. And others include lush scenery from tropical islands. Meeting place 10:15 AM: 1st Spanish United Methodist Church, 163 E 111th St., at Lexington Avenue. Nearest subway: #6 to 110th. End at 100th Street and Lex. Steady rain cancels. Leader: Leigh Hallingby. lhallingby@gmail.com or call/text 551-404-7514 with questions. Nonmembers of Outdoors Club: $5.
