Museum Tour: New Amsterdam and Lost New York
Saturday, June 15, 2024 – 10 am – Noon
Manhattan
Where to Find Us: Meet in front of the New-York Historical Society, 170 Central Park West (77th St). The B and C trains stop at CPW and W 81st St, and the 1 train stops at W 79th St and Broadway. The 2 and 3 trains stop at W 72nd St and Broadway.
Limited to 15 walkers, each of whom must pay me (in cash) the $16 (reduced) admission fee to enter the museum. There will an additional fee of $5 for non-members of the Outdoors Club.
Anyone interested in NYC’s early history and some of its demolished treasures will enjoy two shows at the Historical Society: “New York Before New York: The Castello Plan of New Amsterdam” and “Lost New York,” an exhibit of paintings, drawings and photos of wonderful buildings that no longer exist. I will guide walkers through each of the shows. The museum opens at 11 am. If you wish, you can join me for a walk at 10 am in a nearby section of Central Park to see some beautiful natural and manmade sites.
The $16 admission charge represents a savings of $3 for every member of a group of more than 10 people. If fewer than that show up for this event, the fee will be $19 per person. The reduced rate includes admission to the entire museum for the full day – there are several other shows as well as films to see – along with a 10 percent discount on purchases in the shop. Those attending will also receive a voucher for reduced admission for a future visit.
