AN URBAN HIKE FROM SUNSET PARK'S CHINATOWN TO INDUSTRY CITY AND JAPAN VILLAGE
Details
We will walk in the interesting Sunset Park Brooklyn neighborhood, beginning in one of our city's largest Chinatowns on 8th Avenue, and make our way to Sunset Park, a New York hidden treasure, with its breathtaking vistas. We then go to Industry City, a destination of experiences, unique shops, galleries, wine tasting, and even a chocolate manufacturer with free samples and products for sale. A special treat there is Japan Village, with restaurants, shopping and a newly opened cultural center on the second floor. We have an option to end the day at another real nice park located on the waterfront, Bush Terminal Park, and can then take a nearby R train subway at 4th Avenue at 45 Street, or 36 Street if you skip the Bush Terminal Park.
This hike is joint with the Appalachian Mountain Club, and you need to be on only one Club’s going list. We will walk at a steady, moderate but not slow pace over a distance of around 4 miles, stopping at places of interest. There will be no lunch stop, so bring some snacks along if you wish. (This hike is intended for adults 18 years and older and please no dogs).
Precipitation, as well as potentially unsafe ground conditions from ice or snow, or even questionable forecast may cancel, postpone or modify; check website for latest updates. We meet at 1 PM in front of Gongfu Xiao Long Bao Restaurant at 6020 8th Avenue at 61st Street. Take the N train to 8th Avenue in Brooklyn and exit at 8th Avenue and 62nd Street; walk one block to the meeting spot.
Nonmember fee $5.
